Rev. J. Scott Gardiner

This is not a self-improvement plan.  It is an invitation to die.

Sanctification isn't about becoming a better version of yourself — it's about becoming less, so that Christ can be seen more.  13 Weeks to a Deader You walks readers through 91 daily readings, seven days a week for thirteen weeks, tracing what it actually means to take up a cross and lay down a self.

The self-help shelf says self can fix self.  This book begins somewhere else: Scripture does not say the old man needs better coaching.  It calls the old man to the Cross.  Across 91 days, one question keeps returning — what in me must die so Christ can be seen more clearly?

The structure is designed to be walked again — and again.  Thirteen weeks is one quarter of a year, and the same pattern can look different on a second or third pass, because dying to self was never meant to be a one-time event.

How It's Built

Daily — for 91 days
One Pattern a Week

Each week confronts one recurring pattern of the old self — seven days, one angle per day, pressing the same conviction until it becomes harder to excuse, harder to hide, and harder to keep alive.

Again — four times a year
Built to Be Repeated

Thirteen weeks is a season, not a finish line. The devotional is designed to be walked four times a year, going deeper into death to self with every pass.

Today's Funeral

“Today I bury… my need to find someone worse than me so I can feel better about myself.”

The Anchor

Galatians 2:20
"I have been crucified with Christ.  It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.  And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."
Luke 9:23
"If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me."
John 12:24
"Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit."
Romans 6:6
"We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin."

About the Author

Rev. J. Scott Gardiner

Scott writes as a fellow traveler on the road to the Cross — not as one who has mastered dying to self, but as one still learning how stubbornly the old man survives.  He leads Matthew 6 Ministry and serves alongside fellow believers in ministries focused on bringing the hope found in Jesus Christ to those seeking true answers.

“Because the old man has a terrible habit of surviving funerals he was invited to attend.”

Why coil-bound — and why only through Lulu?

This is a serious study product, meant to lie open beside your Bible while you write.  The author intentionally chose a coil-bound, lay-flat format designed for study instead of a standard glued workbook that fights to close.  That binding is printed and shipped directly by Lulu and isn't offered through Amazon.
